CP Homeworks, Labs, & Lessons
Assignments, Project, Labs, & Lessons
There are 3 mandatory independent assignments and one mandatory project, divided into 3 parts, to do during the course. There are lab sessions for troubleshooting in the preparation of your solutions, and lessons to discuss solutions. Each homework gets a score of 0..3 points, which are only valid this academic year. The homework questions will appear below in due time.
PhD students can skip the assignments (but are highly encouraged to do them nevertheless, though solo) and exam if they do a sufficiently sophisticated solo project (replacing the standard project), possibly in connection with their PhD research: contact the head teacher.
Deadlines & Submission
The homework reports, with imposed structure (LaTeX source at Resources), must be submitted electronically via the Student Portal
, whose clock may be different from yours.
Reports may only be submitted by email or hardcopy upon prior written permission by the head teacher, upon reporting to him as soon as possible a convincing case of force majeure, normally during office hours and at least one week before the deadline.
Submission deadlines are hard, except in a convincing case of force majeure, upon reporting it to the head teacher as soon as possible, normally during office hours and at least one week before the deadline.

Mandatory Lessons
The lesson (if any) of a homework is mandatory for those who earned 0..2 points on that homework, in order to avoid any repetition of major mistakes at the exam. Non-attendance other than for a case of force majeure reported to the head teacher yields a downgrading to 0 points. For the students earning 3 points on a homework, lesson attendance is nevertheless highly encouraged.
Teamwork
Every homework report must be prepared by a team of two students. A report may only be submitted solo upon prior written permission by the head teacher, upon reporting as soon as possible a convincing case of force majeure, normally during office hours and at least one week before the deadline; the permission is normally only valid for that homework and must thus be renewed if need be. Teams can under no circumstance comprise more than two students. Teams may change between homeworks, with no need to inform the head teacher. Report any difficulties (dysfunctional cooperation, joyriding, etc) within a team immediately to the head teacher.
Ethics
The legislation on cheating (summary) of the IT department will be rigorously applied, without exceptions. We reserve the right to use plagiarism detection tools and point out that they are very powerful.
We assume that by submitting a report you are certifying that it is solely the work of your team, except where explicitly stated otherwise, and that each teammate can individually explain any part of the report at the moment of submission. We reserve the right to make checks.
Expected Effort
The whole course is worth 10 higher-education credits (ECTS credits), which translates under Swedish university law into an expected 267 hours of work on this course for the average student, including attending the scheduled events (totalling about 65 hours, including the exam), reading and understanding the material, and preparing your homework reports. In other words, the 6 homeworks may well be calibrated to take an average of 30 hours each for the average student. This does not clash with other courses you are taking, as university studies are defined to take 400 hours of work per study period, and all courses you are taking at the same time are normally calibrated to reach that total.

Grades & Credits
The three assignments are worth 2 higher-education credits (ECTS credits). The three project parts are worth 3 higher-education credits. The grade scale is as follows, when you get at least 1 point on each assignment (resp. project part) and have a total of x assignment (resp. project) points:
Grade | Condition |
---|---|
5 | 8 <= x <= 9 |
4 | 6 <= x <= 7 |
3 | 3 <= x <= 5 |
U | 0 <= x <= 2 |
