At the Department of Information Technology you can study everything from advanced computational algorithms and computer hardware development to advanced programming and design of user-friendly software. Where does your career in IT begin?

With us, you will study in an international environment, and with teachers who in many cases are world-leading researchers in their fields. Several of our educators have received prizes for their pedagogical methods. Our programs are characterised by innovative teaching and learning methods and a science-based pedagogy, and many of our courses are conducted in project form to prepare your for your working life. If you choose to continue studying at a higher level, you will be well prepared for an international career in industry and business as well as in research.

International Studies

Students enrolled at the Department of Information Technology have several options when considering studies abroad. There are many places to go and you can attend both courses within and outside of your particular subject area. Find more information about your international opportunities.

In order to attend the Department of Information Technology as an international exchange student, your home university must have a current formal exchange agreement with Uppsala University. To find out if this applies to you, your first contact should be with the exchange officer at your department or the international office at your home university. They will nominate you for an exchange with Uppsala University, after which our exchange coordinator Ulrika Jaresund will be in touch with you.

PhD Studies

Are you interested in PhD studies? Our PhD students receive training of the highest standard possible and our PhD programme is structured to prepare all our students for positions at the best universities, nationally and internationally, in industry, public agencies, and society in general.

Two degrees at different levels of research are awarded at the Faculty of Science and Technology: Doctor of Philosophy in Science, and Licentiate of Science. PhD training is at the highest level of the education system.

All our PhD students are paid employees at the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University. The position is for a maximum of five years and includes research at 80% and departmental duties (mainly teaching) at a level of at most 20%.
