NordConsNet: Objectives & History
Founded in May 2002, and a special interest group of the Swedish Artificial Intelligence Society (SAIS) since September 2008, the objectives of NordConsNet (called SweConsNet until mid 2016) are:
- Promotion of constraint programming (CP) in the Nordic European countries
- Coordination and integration of constraint programming research and technology transfer in the Nordic European countries
- Education on constraint programming in the Nordic European countries (see Courses on CP)
- Information dissemination portal for the Nordic European countries: listing of problems solved with constraint programming, constraint programming support tools developed, constraint programming research projects, constraint programming courses and events, open jobs with a constraint programming profile, etc. (witness this website)
- Connection to Nordic, European, and worldwide networks (for instance, NordConsNet is a special interest group of SAIS, the Swedish Artificial Intelligence Society)
- Organisation of technical meetings (see NordConsNet Workshops)
Toward these objectives, a paper entitled Constraint Programming in Sweden was published by Pierre Flener (UU), Mats Carlsson (SICS), and Christian Schulte (KTH) in the journal IEEE Intelligent Systems, 24(2):87-89, March/April 2009. (PDF)
The following MSc theses conducted or defended at NordConsNet nodes won the annual AI Master's Thesis Award of the Swedish Artificial Intelligence Society (SAIS):
- 2016: Frej Knutar, Automatic Generation of Assembly Schedules For a Dual-Arm Robot Using Constraint Programming (UU)
- 2012: Rodrigo Ronald Gumucio Escobar, Constraints on Set Variables for Constraint-based Local Search (UU)
- 2011: Joseph Scott, Filtering Algorithms for Discrete Cumulative Resources (UU)
- 2010: Roberto Castañeda Lozano, Constraint Programming for Random Testing of a Trading System (KTH)
