3rd CeTUSS Workshop

Cross-Disciplinarity in Engineering Education

Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden
December 5 - 6 , 2005

| Call for Papers | program and presentations |

In collaboration with CEMUS and IEEE Nordic Education Society Chapter, the Third CeTUSS Workshop focused on the following aspects from a student perspective:

  • Cross-disciplinary courses/education programs
  • Using cross-disciplinary principles
  • Engineers: cross-disciplinary aspects
  • Cross-disciplinarity and sustainable development

This workshop addressed one essential aspect of what it means to be an engineer; being able to deal with cross-disciplinary issues. That is, to be able to look across disciplines for ideas and resources as well be well prepared to interact with people whose training and education is in another discipline. Introducing cross-disciplinary thinking into education can be done at different levels, e.g. in individual courses or entire programs. Sustainable development is a suitable theme for incorporating different disciplines into a holistic unit, and especially relevant since it might be legislated as a quality aspect to be addressed in higher education. By cross-disciplinarity we also mean incorporating methods used in another discipline, e.g. art and education.

The Swedish National Center for Technology Education in the Students´ Context (CeTUSS), the Center for Environmental and Developing Issues (CEMUS), and the IEEE Nordic Education Society Chapter therefore arranged this workshop.

PROGRAM

The program of the workshop can be found following this link. Abstracts, papers and presentations are available. The next workshop is preliminary planned to be held in early April, if you have any idea for future workshop topics, feel free to send a note. The language of our workshops, both for presentations and proceedings, are English.

ORGANIZATIONS

CeTUSS (Center för Teknikutbildning i Studenternas Sammanhan) is a Swedish national resource center for pedagogical development in engineering education with focus on efforts to integrate societal aspects and a broader range of subject. Education forms where students interact with themselves, other students, teachers, and the community are of special interest. CeTUSS is sponsored by the Swedish Council for the Renewal of Higher Education.
