Information-Centric Data Collection for Mobile Sensor Networks

This is a sub-project within WISENET. We will study how information-centric networking techniques can be applied for data collection in mobile sensor networks. It is a challenge to provide high quality-of-information (QoI) in mobile sensor networks due to the large-scale, dynamic and heterogeneous nature of the networks. With the increasing number of smart and ubiquitous devices connecting to the Internet, we need new technology to collect, aggregate, store and retrieve huge amount of information at a reasonable cost. In this project, we will investigate adaptive data collection, effective caching, information processing, intelligent coordination among heterogeneous smart devices and their interaction with the Internet. project webpage

Centre for Natural Disaster Science

As a member of the Centre for Natural Disaster Science our group develops computer networking technology that is autonomous, secure and energy constrained to enable data communication under harsh conditions. The work focuses on issues regarding early warning systems, sensor data collection and opportunistic communication during a natural disaster. project webpage.

Center for Networked Systems

The Institute Excellence Center conducts, integrates, and exploits research in the area of networked systems with a new, multidisciplinary approach. We combine methods and results from three research areas; networking, distributed systems, and intelligent systems. Our group in Uppsala contributes to the research on information-centric networking and connecting wireless sensor networks to the Internet. More information can be found on the project webpage.

Profun - Optimization for Wireless Sensor Networks

This project is within a SSF funded project on "ProFuN: A programming Platform for Future Wireless Sensor Networks". Our goal is to apply various optimization techniques, including constraint programming, to tackle challenging deployment, configuration and network operation problems in wireless sensor networks. It is a joint project between the Communication Research Group (CoRe) and Constraint Programming Group (ASTRA) in Uppsala University. project webpage.

The EU/Interact project has a main objective to build capacity for identifying, understanding, predicting and responding to diverse environmental changes throughout the wide environmental and land-use envelopes of the Arctic. Haggle is a new autonomic networking architecture designed to enable communication in the presence of intermittent network connectivity, which exploits autonomic opportunistic communications (i.e., in the absence of end-to-end communication infrastructures). Wireless Network Security

We focus on security aspects in mobile peer-to-peer networks. We identify, investigate, and evaluate the basic mechanisms needed to securely execute common protocols and applications in a mobile environment. A special focus is on support for personal devices with limited resources. > read more

Overlay Networks including Mobile Nodes

We investigate the behavior of DHT-based overlays in the presence of large heterogeneity among peers and mobile nodes that come and go without any previous indication thereof. Focus has been on Bamboo, for which we have developed a ns2 module that includes the heterogeneity aspects.

Lightweight Distributed Testbed

We use a small, portable piece of code that runs on anything from a basestation to a powerful server to build a distributed testbed in which connectivity and bandwidth between unmodified applications varies in a choreographed way. Everything is controlled via a portable and highly extensible GUI that can be extended to support testbed-specific modules and visualizations. The resulting testbed is flexible, portable and can operate using own hardware, emulab nodes, planet-lab nodes or a combination of them all.

VINNMER - Collaborative Sensing with Mobile Phones and Wireless Sensors

This project is funded by VINNOVA VINMMER program for international collaboration. The goal of this project is to design a collaborative sensing paradigm including wireless sensors and mobile phones to improve the spatial and temporal sensing quality in environmental sensing applications. The paradigm also supports information-aware data dissemination for mobile users in remote areas. This is a joint project with Prof. Mani Srivastava in UCLA.
