ExPreSSO - Examination and Preferences in Students' Study Organization

A study of the effects of non-traditional examination methods in the engineering education programmes

The project is funded by Swedish Council for the Renewal of Undergraduate Education and NyIng.

In this study we are investigating if and how students' learning and study habits can be improved by a change in the forms of assessment. The study has been performed on engineering students in Computer Science and Technology at Uppsala University, Sweden 1997 - 2000. Data indicate that the assessment methods clearly effects the students’ study strategies and the outcome of the learning. Other important factors to influence students' learning are deadlines for assignments, dates for exams, and the choice of study partners have been studied. A more detailed discussion is available in Swedish.
