Reconfigurable platforms have evolved to be mature and powerful enough for both sophisticated scientific researches and mission critical industrial applications. While the architecture of reconfigurable hardwares continues advancing, the applications and the tools that utilize these platforms become the dominant factors in the field. In this talk, a built from scratch massively parallel FPGA platform, the Cube, and a promising heterogeneous cluster for future high performance computing, AXEL, will be presented. The limitation and future trends of reconfigurable computing will be discussed. An accelerated medical image registration library which could be run on multiple nodes in an AXEL cluster will then be presented. Finally, some applications including security, scientific and financial simulation and high level synthesis tools will be reviewed.
